OK... Here's my story, the short version: I was born in Denver, Colorado, USA, but I got all of my higher education in New York and Pennsylvania. Without a doubt,
studying Spanish and computers had the most influence on the rest of my life. Ever since I was a boy I wanted to travel to South America, but I couldn't afford to go until after getting a computer programming job out of college. My first big trip away from the USA was unforgettable! I climbed the tallest mountain in the Andes (Aconcagua, Argentina), hit the beach in Chile, hiked the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, and met up with my brother James in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Not long after I returned to Colorado, I received a unique offer to go to work in Tokyo, Japan, so I started to study Japanese. While I was waiting for my work visa, I went on another big trip, this time riding my bicycle solo from Southern Mexico to Costa Rica. But things in Japan didn't really work out as I had planned, and before I knew it, I was sitting in classes in graduate school. During the following summer, I managed to make another solo bicycle ride, from Redding California to Bellingham Washington, using money that I made by Making Footbags. Over the years, I developed my career as a software design professional, becoming a senior partner in a software consulting firm called The Software Federation. Here's my Resume. I used to teach the Object-Oriented Design course at the University of Colorado, until I got laid off thanks to massive statewide budget cuts for higher education. To make a long story short, I got married to a wonderful Brazilian woman named Liliam :-)
In 2003 (just after getting laid off from CU) I decided to make another BIG trip, around the World. Check out my WORLD TOUR site, with a blog and photos from my global adventures.
Here are a couple of cool little Java applets that I created for my Object-Oriented Design class : FRACTAL and CHAOS.
My favorite sport is called
Footbag
(better known by the brand name Hacky Sack). I also used to play a lot of Ultimate, a soccer-like team sport played with a flying disc (better known by the brand name Frisbee). I often play Disc Golf with my friends. In the winter I go snowboarding. I
ride my bicycle to work whenever possible. Sometimes I burst into spontaneous
juggling.
My religion (for lack of a better word) is what some might
call
Secular Humanism. Deep down, I am a scientist and believe that the Laws of Physics can be
reconciled with Eastern Philosophies much more closely than with Western
Religions. I believe deeply that evolution is not just a theory, but a fact. I have visited Gorillas,
Chimpanzees, Orangutans, and Humans in the wild; we humans talk better than our furrier cousins, but we don't
climb trees as well.

Peace.
